Cargo of Souls is a working title for my current work based on conversations with my mother.
My mother passed away in 2018 at an approximate age of 75, her date of birth in her passport was a guess. The cause of her depression remains sunken, but there is a direct link to the bloody separation of India and Pakistan in 1947, and her move from India to the UK in the 1960’s. Given her condition, we hardly ever spoke to each other in words, and instead developed a spectral system of utterances, intuition, rituals, food recipes, and beliefs. These spectral systems were also speculative attempts to heal, or to escape. It is these speculative attempts to heal that I wish to fold and unfold in a PhD trajectory exercised through autobiography.
